John Marcacci Obituary

John A. Marcacci, 90, died July 21, 2009, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. He was born in Oakmont, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for eight years, coming from Cape Canaveral. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was the captain and aircraft commander of 17 B-29 bomber missions over Tokyo, and retired a lieutenant colonel. Before retirement in 1981, he was controller and general manager at Indian Creek Country Club in Miami Beach for 30 years. He was a member of VFW Post 3918 Vero Beach. He was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach and lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus of Miami 3757. He was a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and a member of the Duquesne Alumni Association. Survivors include his sons, Bill Marcacci of Boynton Beach and Tom Marcacci of Jupiter; daughters, Dorit Lofting of Old Fort, N.C., Janet Bochnowski of Atherton, Calif., and Paula Boyle of Ayden, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, in November. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 7550 26th St., Vero Beach, FL 32966. SERVICES: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. July 27 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach, followed by interment at 1:30 p.m. in South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
