John Anthony Zidek, 63, died Oct. 20, 2009, at Martin Memorial Medical Center, Stuart. He was born in Cook County, Ill., and lived in Port St. Lucie since 1982, coming from Maryland. He served in the Navy and Army during the Vietnam War era and received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Expert Badge Rifle M16, Marksman Badge Hand Grenade and Marksman Badge Pistol .45. He was a retired Martin County sheriff's deputy and also worked for Florida Department of Corrections. He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Zidek of Port St. Lucie; son, Jeffrey Zidek of Cookville, Tenn.; daughter, Natalie McCracken of Ill.; brother, Joseph Zidek of Wis.; sisters, Delores Mathas of Rockford, Ill., and Johnette Schroeder of Hinkley, Ill; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marsha Zidek; and sister, Mary LaTessa. SERVICES: A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at Forest Hills Young & Prill Chapel, Stuart, with a funeral service at 6 p.m. with Chaplain Bryan Irvine officiating.
