WILLIAM YOUNG HUMPHREYS III William Young Humphreys III, 85, passed away peacefully in his home in Vero Beach, FL, on Monday, May 31, 2010. Bill was born August 31, 1924, in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from M.I.T. with a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and worked for Westinghouse Electric in Pittsburgh, P.A, for many years before moving to Fenwal, Inc. in Ashland, MA. He later served as President of the Autocall division of Federal Sign and Signal Corporation. In 1946, Bill married Jayne Wade Madden and raised five children. He was preceded in death by Jayne and two of his daughters, Heidi Horne Humphreys and Wendy Anne Swain. He later married Susan Brooks of St. Louis, MO, and Georgia Rea of Toledo, OH, both of whom preceded him in death. Bill is survived by Judy Meagher of Dallas, TX, Jan Yount of Winchester, VA, and David Humphreys of Hyannis Port, MA, as well as six grandchildren. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and dear friend to many. Though sorely missed, he will remain forever in our hearts. A lifelong sailor and leader of the Fairwind Racing Group, Bill was skipper of his own one meter racing sloop, number 13. Though he is no longer with us, Commodore Bill will still be there, in spirit and memory, watching over the races. A private cremation service will be held by his family. A public celebration of Bill's life will follow in autumn. paid obituary
