ALEXANDER DUNCAN MACWILLIAM, JR. Alexander Duncan MacWilliam Jr., 88, of Vero Beach passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10, 2012 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. Alex was born December 3, 1924 to Alexander Sr. and Jennett (Flaherty) MacWilliam in Vero Beach. He was part of a pioneer family, and had been a lifetime resident on the barrier island. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army Air Force during WWII in the Pacific Theater. During that time he repaired machine guns on military aircraft. He later became a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Alex retired two years ago, after founding the Alex MacWilliam Real Estate Company in 1949. He was a two term past president of the Realtor's Association of Indian River County, and had received several awards and honors from the association. Alex was one of the founding fathers of the town of Indian River Shores, and served on the town's city council for nearly twenty years. He was also a founding member of the Indian River Farms drainage district. He also served on the board of directors for Barnett Bank of Indian River County for many years, and on the Mosquito Control board. He was a member and former board member of the Vero Beach Country Club; past president of the Wolf Laurel Country Club in Mars Hill, NC; and the Quail Valley Club in Vero Beach. Alex loved the outdoors. He was an avid golfer, tennis player, fisherman and hunter. He was an original member of the Swine Club hunting lease. He enjoyed gardening the landscape around his home. He was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his honesty and integrity in and out of business. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jean Rymer MacWilliam; daughters, Sandra (George) Streetman of Vero Beach and Cynthia (Jerome) Beasock of Vero Beach; son, Alex "Buzz" (Stephanie) MacWilliam III of Vero Beach; grandchildren, Shannon Padgett; Kevin Streetman; Joseph Beasock; Justin Beasock ; Alexander MacWilliam IV and Chandler MacWilliam; great- grandchildren Megan & Mallory Padgett; brothers, Robert & Peter MacWilliam; and sisters, Joan Schardt and Barbara Fultz. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edgar and Bill MacWilliam; and sister Helen Glenn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach. A private burial will be held at a later date in Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.
