MARY HOWARD PHILLIPS Mary Howard Phillips, 84, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012. Mary was born in Cleveland, Tennessee on April 15, 1928. As a very young child her family moved to Vero Beach where she was raised with her six brothers. She graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1947 where she formed many lasting friendships. On May 31, 1947 she married Charles Phillips, her childhood sweetheart. They moved to Birmingham, Alabama for a short period of time while Charles attended art school. They later returned to their hometown of Vero Beach. Mary worked for many years in the office at the First Baptist Church before devoting her time to helping her husband in his accounting service, and raising their two children. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church for over 70 years and enjoyed being part of the "Nifty Fifties". Survivors include her son, Mark Phillips and his wife Joan, granddaughters Kristin Phillips, Andrea Garment and her husband Robert, all of Vero Beach; daughter Cathy Park and husband Kirby of Ft. Pierce, grandsons Austin Park of New York, Adam Park of Gainesville; brother William Howard and his wife Maragret, sister-in-laws Ann Howard and Eleanor Howard all of Vero Beach, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles Phillips and brothers Leonard Howard, Roy Howard, Hoyt Howard Sr., Deward Howard and Columbus Howard Sr. She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Services: a visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at First Baptist Church, 2206 16th Ave, Vero Beach. The memorial service will be Saturday January 5, 2013 at 2pm at the First Baptist Church, Vero. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church. Paid Obituary
