Raymond Frank Winch 4/25/1924-1/25/2013 Raymond Frank Winch after a protracted battle with Lewy Body Parkinson's Disease, shed his body to go home to God on Friday Morning January 25th, 2013 at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester, Pa. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Jean Fischer Winch of Kennett Square, PA, his children Margaret "Peggy" Baird of Willow Grove, Pa, Nancy Elizabeth "Betsy" Murtha of Geigertown, Pa, Raymond F. Winch, Jr. of Thornton, Pa, and Stephen Winch of Milton, GA, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Ray was born in Oaklyn, NJ, graduated from Collingswood High School in 1942, attended Rutgers University and graduated from Swarthmore College in 1945. He graduated midshipmen's school at Columbia University and was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy in 1945, serving on an aircraft carrier in the Bikini Atolls. Ray was employed for 32 years by Sun Oil Company, which awarded him a Sloan Fellowship to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where in 1959 he earned a M.S. in Industrial Engineering. Ray spent much of his life volunteering, serving as a board member and President of the Swarthmore School District, a Deacon in his church, Deputy Managing Director for Energy Resources for the City of Philadelphia, Trustee and Chairman of the Board for Delaware County Community College, founding President of the St. Michaels Community Center, and Senior Warden of Christ Church in St. Michaels, MD. Upon his retirement, Ray and Jean spent many happy years living in the St. Michaels, Maryland area and Stuart, Florida. An avid sailor, Ray owned many sailboats and enjoyed sharing his love of sailing with his family. Ray is deeply loved by all his family and will be sorely missed, but he will live in our hearts forever. A Memorial Service is planned for 3:00 pm, February 17th, 2013 at Crosslands, 1660 East Street Road, Kennett Square, PA. A private interment will be held on February 16th, 2013 at Christ Church in St. Michaels, MD. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Michael's Community Center, 103 Railroad Ave, St. Michaels, MD 21663 in his honor.
