Robert "Bob" Winship Bloom Robert "Bob" Winship Bloom, 93, passed into the arms of his Lord on February 10th, 2013, at Indian River Hospital after a brief illness. Bob was born and grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and lived in Jackson and Ypsilanti before moving on to Columbus, Ohio, and Muncie and Evansville, Indiana, then retiring to Venice and Naples Florida in 1982. He has lived in Vero Beach since 2001. At the age of 75, when healed from pancreatic cancer, he committed himself to serving as a "Stephens Minister" in the United Methodist Church. His participation in church life has been very important to him. Bob was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and has kept up his daily workouts at the Jungle Club and riding his recumbent bike. He enjoyed weekly bridge group at the Sanctuary Club House. He has passed on his love of life to his family and friends. Bob especially enjoyed connecting with people and always wanted to engage in conversation. He graduated from Western Michigan University and served his country in World War II in Puerto Rico and Trinidad. Bob's work career started door to door with Fuller Brush and he proceeded to be a Regional Manager for Burroughs Corporation. Bob is survived by his wife of 27 years, Irene (nee Mason), Carol Pearson (David) of Vero Beach, Christine Young (Richard Simon) of New York, stepdaughter Penny Christensen (Craig) of Michigan, and grandchildren Jennifer Garvey (Tom), Erica Baker (Paul), Michael Young (Kirsten Brooks), Sarah Herb (Lenny), Amy Opperman (Vince), Neal Christensen (Roxie), and twelve great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Frances (nee Long) and his brothers Milford and Southard Bloom. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach on Saturday, February 16th at 11 a.m. with Dr. Charles Lever officiating. Following the service military honors will be presented by the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bob's name to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home, 51 Children's Way, Enterprise, Florida 32725.
