GEORGE OLESEN Obituary

GEORGE OLESEN George Olesen, 88, of Palm City, FL passed away on October 15, 2013 at Martin Memorial Hospi
tal. He is survived by Rigmor, his devoted and loving wife of 48 years; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Olesen of Palm City, and nephews, Ralph, Russell and Neil Olesen; also, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jette and Henrik Eifer and nieces Mette and Dorte of Denmark, as well as six great-nephews. George was born in Brooklyn, NY. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, and as a pilot flew B-24s in numerous missions over "the Hump". After the war, he graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in Illustration. He worked at several Madison Avenue advertising agencies, among them: McManus John and Adams, BBD&O, and Needham Harper and Steers. For over 40 years, George was the main creative lay-out artist for the globally-recognized comic strip, The Phantom. During the last ten years of his career until his retirement in 2005, George was the main artist on the Phantom, with his name appearing on the strip. George and Rigmor enjoyed international travel, art and photography. Both avid tennis players, they were a good doubles team on and off the court. George could be seen on the courts at Martin Downs Sports Resort well into his mid-eighties. A Celebration of George Olesen's Life will be held at the Martin Downs Sports Resort on November 6 at 5:00 to 7:00p.m. In lieu of cards or flowers, Rigmor asks that you reach out to a relative or friend who needs you.
