Donald Edward Wagner

CASSTOWN — Donald Edward Wagner, 84, of Casstown, passed away February 8, 2014 at Koester Pavilion.

He was born to parents Granville and Mable (Nation) Wagner in Laura, Ohio on July 14, 1929.

His wife of 62 years, the former Genevieve P. (Jeanne) Mumford, who he married January 20, 1952 survives; along with their three children, David E. Wagner of Casstown and friend Myrna Yoder of Troy; Douglas L. Wagner of Casstown and Debora J. Wagner of Xenia. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters. Two brothers survive, Eldean and Joyce Wagner of Columbus and Eugene Wagner of England; two sisters-in-law, Florence Henderson of Casstown and Betty Artz of Troy; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was a 1948 graduate of Elizabeth High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 assigned to the Atomic Plant in Washington State.

He was a member of Alcony Grace Church and former Sunday school teacher. He was retired from Duriron Company in Dayton after 39 years of service and also retired after 32 years serving Elizabeth Township as Zoning Inspector.

In the 1960's and 70's, he was a volunteer Deputy Sheriff in Miami County. Until his health deteriorated in later years, Don enjoyed fishing, listening to Cincinnati Red's baseball games and reading – especially anything pertaining to the Civil War.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio. Burial will follow in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Ohio. Family and friends may call from 5:00-8:00PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
