PIQUA — Imogene Shawler, 89, of Piqua, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the Piqua Manor Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 27, 1924, in Piqua to the late John and Gertrude (Clawson) Swob. She married Roy F. Shawler on Aug. 27, 1943, in Piqua; he preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1992.
Survivors include four daughters, Judy (Dale) McClure of Kettering, Linda (William) Jones of Englewood, Margaret (David) Bates of Piqua, Connie (Donald) Gehret of Fairborn; a son, David M. (Zenia) Shawler of Arlington, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a sister, Doris Kessler of Troy. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Swob and four sisters, Elsie Cool, Arleta Davis, Goldie Lindley, and Helen Forrest.
Mrs. Shawler was a 1942 graduate of Piqua Central High School and worked at Winans Chocolates and Coffee House for 23 years as a clerk and bookkeeper. She was a 50-year member of the former Evangelical United Methodist Church where she was its financial secretary and Sunday school teacher and then attended the Piqua Salvation Army Citadel and was active in its Joy Club for Seniors. She was a member of the local 1099 Retirees Club of Dayton, enjoyed monthly lunches with her sister and the Class of 1942 classmates. She loved being with her family traveling on vacations especially to the Amish areas and Holmes County.
A service to honor her life will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Major Ronald Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
