Russell Alfred Massie, 81, of Tipp City, Ohio passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at UVMC in Troy, Ohio. Russell was born on June 20, 1932 to Russell and Josie Massie in Tipp City, who preceded him in death. Sarah Massie, Russell's beloved wife of 57 years, passed away on January 28, 2012.
Russell and Sarah are survived by three sons: Randall Lee Massie and wife Carol of Hillsboro, Ohio; James Russell Massie and wife Barbara of San Antonio, Texas; and Michael Alyn Massie and wife Sharon of Casstown, Ohio, along with ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Growing up on his parent's dairy farm in Tipp City, Russell developed a strong work ethic and deep love of nature. As an adult, he worked for over 20 years for NCR of Dayton and finished his career with the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Dayton.
Russell was a man of great faith in God who invested his life in his family and in service to others. Russell was an Elder at Mid-County Church of Christ for many years, where he gave his heart and his time to the Thursday School Program, as well as the individuals and families in that congregation who were in need.
Russell was beloved by his family and friends for his compassionate heart for others, and he will be greatly missed. He left a legacy of faith, love, and compassion, and a lingering memory of his deep chuckle that filled every room with joy.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2013 at Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 West Main Street, Tipp City, Ohio. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, and Pastor Ralph Royse will be officiating, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City, Ohio.
