John A. Jessup Sr.

ST. MARYS - John A. Jessup Sr., formerly of Piqua, more recently of St. Mary's, died at 6:14 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital of St. Mary's.
He was born July 10, 1937, in Piqua, to the late Virgil E. and Frances (McMaken) Jessup. He married Marjorie Bussard on Nov. 25, 1956, in Piqua, and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Victoria (Steve) Miller of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, John "Chip" (Lori) Jessup Jr. of Piqua; five grandchildren, Skylar Jessup, Nate Jessup, Logan Jessup, Alex Burdett and Tara (Jacob) Brake; and two sisters, Randi (Wayne) Willcox of Savannah, Ga., and Judy (Chuck) Baillie of Union City.
Mr. Jessup was a 1956 graduate of Piqua Central High School and he furthered his education with the United States Navy, where he served for 24 years including during the Vietnam War, retiring in 1978.
Additionally, he taught high school and adult students at the Upper Valley Career Center, served as coordinator of the business and industry department of Edison Community College and taught at the Wright State University, Lake Campus in Auglaize County until a few years ago. He was a member of the Naval Reserve, Ohio National Guard, Fleet Reserve and National Rifle Association.
In addition to his family, he enjoyed woodworking and his volunteer work with Upper Valley Medical Center.
A service to honor his life will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with The Rev. Jack Chalk officiating.
Burial will follow a Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
