TOLEDO - Arthur Frederick Howard, an accomplished Toledo organist and organ technician, died Monday, March 25, 2013. He was 67.
Mr. Howard was born Sept. 8, 1945, in Troy, to Emma and Harry Howard. He attended Miami County schools, graduated in 1963 from Piqua Catholic High and attended Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
His first job was as organist at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Cincinnati. He served churches from Trinity Episcopal, Troy, and St. Mark's Episcopal, Sidney, to a number of Toledo churches.
He worked with electronic and pipe organs, rebuilding an entire theater organ inside a Maumee home and restoring a church organ in North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by 10 brothers and sisters, Harriet "Dolly" Heithaus (Chick) of Naples, Fla., Willard of Placitas, N.M., Frank, Marion (Kris), Keith (Pam), William, Robert and Randy, all of Piqua, Marette, of Houston, and Antoinette Reynolds, of Piqua.
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, including Kristi Creager of Piqua; and great-nephews and -nieces.
A private family service will be held April 6 in the Piqua area, with burial in Miami Memorial Park, Covington.
