LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Jeffrey Lind Westerling, 59, Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Casstown, Ohio, passed away at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, eleven days after suffering a stroke.
Born March 16, 1955 in Troy, Ohio to Jim and Janet Westerling, he was just a few months old when the family moved to the farm on Troy Urbana Rd.
A 1973 graduate of Miami East High School and ETI Technical Institute, he worked for Picker International Inc. for more than 30 years in the Phoenix, AZ area. He later did contract IT servicing and household handyman work in Las Vegas. Jeff was a lifetime member of the Lostcreek United Church of Christ and enjoyed singing in the choir. A terrific cook, Jeff always shared his enthusiasm for fine cuisine. He loved to tinker and build things and always volunteered to help family with projects on his return visits to Miami County. A highlight for Jeff was coming home last year for his 40th high school reunion. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jimmie.
He is survived by brother Jon (Bev) Westerling, sisters Ann Bailey, Janel (Bill) Zimmerman and Jacquie (Daryle) Painter, all of Miami County, nephew and best friend Jerry Westerling, also of Las Vegas, and nephews Bill Zimmerman, Paul Ellis, Michael (Lily) Painter, Mark (Kelly) Westerling and nieces Robin Ellis-Rich (Ed), Cinda (Jay) Alspaugh, Jolene (Aaron) Matson, Jennifer Westerling, Amy Bailey, and many great and great great nieces and nephews.
Jeff continues to help others with the gift of his body to Life Science Anatomical.
A memorial service to celebrate Jeff's life will be held at a later date.
