MIDDLETOWN — Mary Louise (Grooms) Ashenhurst, age 76, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at her residence.
She was born April 18, 1937 in Troy, OH to Lester and Mary (Gladman) Grooms. Mary Graduated from Troy High School, the University of Cincinnati, B.S. and the University of Dayton, M.S. in education.
She then began to teach at the Middletown City Schools, where she found her passion and love for teaching children for next 35 years, retiring in 1995. Mary was a member of Springhill Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lester Grooms. Mary is survived by her son, James Ashenhurst Sr.; grandson, James "Jay" (Sarah Arrowood) Ashenhurst Jr. and Froso Smith Calhoun; great-grandson, James Ashenhurst III; brother, Rev. Dr. James (Marcia) Grooms; Niece, Sherry (Grooms) Smith; Great-Niece, Alexis (Smith) (Christian) Krozal; Great-Nephew, Nicholas Smith; Great-Grand Nephew and Niece, Jacob & Emily Krozal and several cousins.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 17, 2014 from 10:00am – 12:00 pm at Baker-Stevens-Parramore Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Steve Reeves officiating. Graveside Committal Services will be at 2:00pm at Riverside Cemetery in Troy, OH with Revs. Steve Reeves and Dr. James Grooms officiating.
