Nancy G. Long (90) passed away from this blessed life on January 9, 2019. She was born July 14, 1928 in Norfolk, Virginia to Herbert E. Gouldman and Lillian Hodges Gouldman Swan.

In 1946, she was graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk and in 1949 from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, with a BS in Psychology. During her senior year, she was a guide for Colonial Williamsburg in the three major historic buildings dressed in Colonial America costume.

In 1951, she was married to Raymond (Shorty) Egerton Long, Jr., also of Norfolk. They had three daughters, Kathleen Norris of Phoenix, AZ, Cynthia Waltho (Craig) of Ham Lake, MN, and Judith Rogers (John) of Spokane, WA.

Raymond's business as a national sales manager for several national home appliance and TV/electronic companies (Philco, Magnavox, Sylvania, Maytag, Kitchen Aid) moved the family around the country. Nancy and Raymond spent their last 40 years in Phoenix, AZ, where Raymond died in 2009. Nancy then moved to Spokane, WA, to be near daughter Judy and family.

She loved church and was a member wherever they lived. Loving music, she sang in the choir and played hand bells. She taught Sunday school and Women's Bible study. Nancy was particularly proud to serve as a Deacon and on the Pastoral Search Committee at the Troy (OH) Presbyterian Church.

Nancy was at her core an educator and a life-long learner. In addition to being an elementary school teacher, when she was 60 she spent a summer in China teaching English as a second language at Kashkar Teacher's College. She loved to give talks about our wonderful Early American History. She said her love of history may be because she finds her ancestors in history.

She was a member of The Jamestowne Society, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, National Society Colonial Dames of America, National Society of the Magna Charta Dames and Barons, and Colonial Order of the Crown of Charlemagne. She was also a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and PEO.

Her grandchildren are Bradford Norris of Bowling Green, KY, Gordon Waltho (Danielle Van Noy) of New York, NY, Anna Waltho of Argentina, Logan Rogers of Phoenix, AZ, and two great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service for Nancy Long on Thursday, January 17, at Hamblen Presbyterian Church on Spokane's South Hill. She has asked to be buried with her beloved Hodges Family in Mathews County, VA, on the banks of the East River of the Chesapeake Bay.
