TROY — David R. Wheeler, 74, longtime resident of Northridge, recent resident of Troy, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born in Ferguson, Kentucky on May 18, 1940 to the late Bolin C. & Ruby Jane (Anderson) Wheeler.

David graduated from Ferguson High School in 1959, and served in the Army National Guard from 1961 to 1965. He worked as a bookbinder for Dayton Press (McCalls) for 21 years and later retired from Northridge High School, after serving as a janitor for 19 years. David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Northridge.

He was a longtime ASA umpire & coach and an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan.

Preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Rutherford & Doris Zimmerman; brothers, Donald L., Joe H. & Thomas Wheeler. Survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Jewell; son & daughter-in-law, Jeffrey D. & Kim Wheeler; his special grandsons, Joshua David & Darby Levi Wheeler; sisters, Margaret Price, Nancy Strunk (Charles Ed); brothers, Glen Wheeler (Benita) & Bill Wheeler (Cindy); numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the George C. Martin Funeral Home, "Northridge Chapel," 5040 Frederick Pike at Needmore Road. Pastor Steve Veg, officiating. Interment Wheelock Cemetery, West Milton. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Martin Funeral Home.
