Ruby (Althoff) Kuckherman

TROY — Ruby (Althoff) Kuckherman, age 97, a long time business owner and resident of Troy, passed away August 5, 2014 in her home surrounded by her family. Ruby was born in Versailles, OH March 30, 1917 to the late Herman and Agnes's (Shilling) Althoff.

She graduated from Versailles High School in 1935. That same year, Ruby became a licensed cosmetologist and began working at Lillie Miller Beauty Shop in Troy. Ruby purchased that salon in 1940 and operated at that same location from 1940-1958. Ruby's Beauty Salon moved to its present location in 1958 and Ruby continued to work at the salon until 2006 when at the age of 89; she was physically unable to work.

The salon is still in operation and is being managed by her daughter, Diana. In 2013, Ruby was recognized by the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology for 78 years of dedicated service to the Beauty Industry.

Ruby was married to Alvin (Cookie) Kuckherman for 45 years. They had two daughters: Deborah and Diana Kuckherman Wright. Besides her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband: Alvin; her daughter: Deborah Kuckherman of Troy; and her sisters: Phyllis Althoff of Versailles, Ruth Oliver of Versailles, Eileen Mendenhall of Versailles and Evelyn Earhart of Troy. Ruby is survived by her daughter: Diana Wright and son-in-law, Michael, of New Carlisle; and her 5 grandchildren: Jessica (Mark) Williams of Troy, Lydia (Barrak) Boland of Dayton, Benjamin Wright of San Diego, Abigail (Josh) Rodriguez of Princeton, NJ and Jonathan Wright of Columbus. She had four great grandchildren: Leah, Michael and Brianna Williams and Ruby Boland. She is also survived by her sisters: Betty (Harold) Rhoades of Troy, Kathleen Detrick formerly of Troy and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby was a member of First Lutheran Church and Piqua Country Club.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014 at First Lutheran church in Troy with Pastor Ric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Troy. Family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.
