George Jalbert Obituary

George J. Jalbert, 91, passed away November 8th, 2011. His wife, Elizabeth M. (Whitelock) passed away in 1983. He is survived by his longtime companion, Blanche Pisecki, his children, Jack T. Jalbert and his wife Sandie of Charlton, Rob M. Jalbert and his husband Jerry Marcanio of Royalston, Barbara A. Richford and her husband Guy of Leicester, Joyce E. Mondor and her husband Joe of East Brookfield, and Joanne E. Jalbert and her companion Gary Bousquet of Southbridge. He also leaves his grandchildren, Kellie Dahlstrom, Randie Willand, Julie Johnson, Melinda Gauvin, and Kim, Kelsey and Ben Mondor, and five great-grandchildren. His son, George E. Jalbert, grandson, Chris Johnson, brothers, Edward Francis and Roger Jalbert and sisters, Betty Mesale and Rita Denzer predeceased him. George was born June 18, 1920 in Grafton, MA, son of the late Helen (Crow) and Edward Jalbert. He attended Grafton schools and played semi-pro baseball in the Blackstone Valley League. George served in the US Navy during WW II in Europe and North Africa. He also met his wife Elizabeth during the war in England. George's wife Elizabeth and their eldest son George journeyed home on the Queen Elizabeth I. George and Elizabeth then settled in Grafton where they raised their family. George served in the Navy again during the Korean conflict repairing ships in South Carolina. Following the war George worked for many years as a Construction Superintendent and Estimator for Thomas G. Gallagher in Somerville and Hart Engineering in East Providence, Rhode Island. He was a 64 year member of the Local 537 Pipefitters Union in Boston and was also active in the Delisle Goulet American Legion Post 92 in Grafton. He served on the Board of Registrars in Grafton and also coached Little League Baseball. George had a great love of the outdoors, frequently hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He and his companion Blanche enjoyed taking trips across the country together. He leaves his family with wonderful memories of their cottage in Ashburnham of skiing, snowmobiling and long afternoons by the lake. Those who knew George will miss his quick smile, a wink, and the simple way he brought laughter to all around him. In lieu of flowers his family requests memorial contributions to the charity of your choice or the Make A Wish Foundation One Bullfinch Place 2nd Floor Boston MA 02114 or online at
