Robert B. Muenzberg
STURBRIDGE - Robert B. Muenzberg, 85, of Sturbridge and Vero Beach, FL, died on Thursday, May 2nd, in his home after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Donna O. (Oosting) Muenzberg; his son, Robert B. Muenzberg, Jr. and his wife Susan of Charlton; his daughter, Susan McGrath Nasca and her husband Stephen Nasca of Medway; his son-in-law, Dr. Alexander Neidhardt of Woodstock, CT; a sister, Joan Seaney of Oracle, AZ; seven grandchildren, Alex Neidhardt, Adam Neidhardt, Lauren Muenzberg McBrier, Ben Muenzberg, Jason McGrath, Griffin McGrath and Kristin McGrath; 6 great grandchildren, Taive, Jackson, Jack, Samuel, Bridget and Nathaniel; and one niece and nephew. He was predeceased by his daughter, Leslie Neidhardt, in 2002. He was born in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Paul H. and Marjorie (Benton) Muenzberg.
Bob was a 1949 graduate of Dartmouth College, he then served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army in the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Following his Army discharge Bob joined the Aetna Insurance Co. in Hartford, then moved to Boston as a Field Rep. He so impressed one of his clients that he was recruited to join Burnham Insurance Agency in Southbridge where he earned a stellar reputation, first as an insurance executive renowned for scrupulous customer service, and second as a pillar of the community. Bob became the owner of Burnham Insurance Agency and served his community as President of the Tri-Community United Way; was a longtime member and past president of the Southbridge Lions Club; was a corporator of the Southbridge Savings Bank and served as Chairman of the Board at Jacob Edwards Library in Southbridge, where he was instrumental in the library's renovation and expansion. Bob also remained very active in the Dartmouth College Alumni Association as a class reunion chairman and class treasurer.
Bob retired in 1991 and split his time between Sturbridge, Cape Cod and Vero Beach, FL. He and Donna were kept busy following the activities of their family, traveling and golfing. Among his many interests was to shoot his age in golf, a goal more readily achieved later in his life.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 8th, at 10:00am in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will follow in the North Cemetery, Maple St., Sturbridge. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Tuesday, May 7th, from 5:00 to 8:00pm.

Bob Muenzberg was always a gentleman. He was articulate, soft spoken, friendly and very helpful to me as I served his insurance agency when I was a fledgling field man for Aetna Life & Casualty. Bob Muenzberg left a life-long impression and will always be remembered as one class act. Thanks Bob.
