Elaine Ciborowski Obituary

Elaine (Marmurowski) Ciborowski, 81
Worcester - Elaine M. Ciborowski died peacefully on January 7, 2012. She was the daughter of Joseph Marmurowski and Marian (Kowalewski) Marmurowski, and was for nearly 60 years the wife of Henry J. Ciborowski. Elaine leaves three children, Gail Ferreira of Westford, MA, Mark Ciborowski of Concord, NH, and Kim Ciborowski of North Hampton, NH, and grandson Glenn Ferreira of Perth Amboy, NJ. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1930, Elaine came to Worcester at age 16 and thrived in the Worcester community. She graduated from Classical High School and looked forward to attending every reunion. She then went on to become a Registered Nurse at Memorial Hospital, applying her loving and caring spirit. She began as an emergency room nurse during the Worcester tornado of 1953. She later became the Director of Nursing at Westside House and remained active in nursing, including participating in the Harvard Medical School Nurse's Study.
Elaine became a member of the YWCA of Central Massachusetts during High School, starting as a girl reserve in 1946. Over the years and up until her death, she served on and assisted the YWCA Board of Directors including the recent 125th anniversary committee. Elaine was also named an honorary trustee of Mechanics Hall for her many years of service on the Board, including the Property Committee that cared for the restoration of the hall. She was Chairwoman of the Worcester 250th Celebration, served on the Worcester Republican Committee and was also an election worker for more than 40 years until last November. Additionally, she was a past member of the Board for the League of Women Voters and the Worcester Historical Museum.
Elaine was an ardent supporter of the arts and music, and inspired her children to do the same. She sang in the Messiah concerts, and was a life-long concert and theatre goer. She also cherished her antique collections, including the furniture that she painstakingly refinished at the Worcester Center for Crafts. She loved nature and used to often hike Mt. Wachusett and area and was a lifetime member of the Worcester County Horticultural Society and Tower Hill Botanic Garden.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday January 10th from 4 to 8 PM at the Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St, Worcester, followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St, Worcester on Wednesday January 11th at 10 AM. The burial will be held at Notre Dame Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to:
- Mechanics Hall, 321 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608
- YWCA of Central Mass, 1 Salem Sq, Worcester, MA 01608 to establish a fund in Elaine's name to support the 150 campers/day attending Camp Wind in the Pines.

Dear Mark,
I just returned from New York and learned of your mother's death. I send my deepest sympathies for your loss. Sometime down the road I would like to learn more about your Mom. She shared so many of the same passions and interests as my Mom including a nursing career and day camps for girls. I am sure you have many treasured stories and I hope they will give you comfort during this difficult time

We send our deepest sympathy to all the Ciborowski's during this grieving time. We enjoyed gathering with the Ciborowski's when they vacationed in
Rye near our home. It was such delight to have Elaine call and we would talk endlessly about the times gone by and new. She will be so missed.
It is so difficult to "say goodbye.'
Affectionately,
Amelia and jDick

Dear Henry,
I was saddened to hear about Elaine's passing. Elaine was one of the last links with my mother-in-law, Zoe White, and their many years at the Craft Center. I will miss seeing the two of you at community events where it was always good to "catch up". Elaine was a wonderfully warm person and I will keep fond memories of her. My thoughts are with you.
