John J. Nicholson

John J. Nicholson, 89, formerly of Millis, died Thursday, January 13, 2011, in the Overlook Masonic Health Center. His wife, Eleanor M. (Walsh) Nicholson, died in 1999.

He is survived by three sons: Peter M. Nicholson of Whitinsville, Phillip G. Nicholson of St. Louis, MO, and Joseph J. Nicholson of New York, NY; a brother, George Nicholson of Dedham; a sister, Virginia Kendrick of Brockton; four grandchildren and a great granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son, John Paul Nicholson.

Mr. Nicholson was born in Boston, May 18, 1921, a son of George and Anna (Carroll) Nicholson. He grew up in Boston where he graduated from high school, following which he entered an apprentice program at the Watertown Arsenal. He worked as a quality control analyst at the Watertown Arsenal and the Boston Navy Yard, with time out for service in the United States Army during World War II, for 45 years. Following his retirement, he worked for several years at Corning Medical, in Medfield.

Mr. Nicholson lived in Millis for many years, and spent 25 years in Boca Raton, FL, before moving to Charlton in 2005. He was formerly a member of the Knights of Colombus, and he was an avid golfer.

Mr. Nicholson's Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, January 18, in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Linwood, MA, preceded by a Calling Hour, from 9:30-10:30, in the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill Street, Whitinsville. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Bourne.
