Leo O. Bernard, 78
WORCESTER - Leo O. Bernard, 78, of Worcester, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late Edward and Gertrude (Melancon) Bernard and graduated from Commerce High School. Mr. Bernard was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict
and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan L. (Kelley) Bernard; two daughters, Ms. Gail Bernard of Rutland and Ms. Donna Bernard and her partner Jane Bernard of Clinton; a nephew, Mark Bernard, whom he considered a son, and his wife Robin of Barre. He also leaves five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces and many friends. He was predeceased by three brothers, Richard, Rene, and Ronald, and his sister, Joyce.
Mr. Bernard retired from Holden Hospital in 1987 as Director of Maintenance, and after retirement he was a "jack of all trades", helping everyone. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a member of the Boylston Lodge in West Boylston. He loved motorcycling, camping and hunting.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 21 from 10am to Noon at FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 West Boylston Street, West Boylston, followed by a funeral service at Noon in the funeral home. Burial will be at Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
