Michael Saucier Obituary

Michael P. Saucier

Phoenix, AZ / Whitinsville, MA - Michael P. Saucier, 46, of Phoenix, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at home, with his family by his side. He was the husband of Fernanda Santos Saucier and father of Flora Santos Saucier.

Michael wrote stories for a living, as a journalist and a public relations consultant. In Phoenix, he was the founder and owner of Soss Communications, a consulting business, and the proud editor of Frontdoors, a magazine that focused on philanthropy. Prior to moving to Arizona five years ago, Michael worked as a press secretary in the administration of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in New York, as a foreign and city editor at The New York Sun, and as a copy editor at TheStreet.com, Boston Herald and Naples Daily News in Florida.

Michael began his journalism career at Stonebridge Press Newspapers, owner of the Blackstone Valley Tribune. He was editor-in-chief at the Southbridge Evening News when he met his wife Fernanda at a job fair. He offered her an unpaid internship. She turned it down, but she did not turn him down when he called her to go out on a date.

He was born December 22, 1970 in Worcester, MA, the son of John T. and Elizabeth A. (Woodward) Saucier of Whitinsville, MA. He was president of the Northbridge High School Class of 1989.

Michael adored his daughter Flora. He taught her to love books, appreciate great music and though he was often scared when she climbed the mesquite tree on their front yard, he taught her to love nature.

He also loved to travel. He was just as happy during family trips to Ogunquit Beach in Maine and his wife's hometown of Salvador in Brazil as when he visited the plains of northern Wyoming, the beaches of Maui, the cobblestone streets of London, the pubs of western Ireland and the museums of St. Petersburg, Russia.

In addition to his wife Fernanda and parents John and Betsy, he is survived by his daughter, Flora; a brother, John T. Saucier, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Uxbridge; and several nieces and nephews, in the United States and Brazil.

Visiting hours will be held Tues. Nov. 7, 2017 from 4-7 PM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 480 Church St., Whitinsville.

Funeral services will be Wed. Nov. 8, 2017 at 10 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Patrick's Church, 1 Cross St., Whitinsville. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Providence Rd., Rte. 122, Whitinsville.

Memorial donations may be made to Mike Saucier Memorial Fund, Bank of Arizona, c/o Trish Anderson, 3001 E. Camelback, Suite 100, Phoenix, AZ 85016.

My heart broke when I heard of Mike's passing. We worked together at the Blackstone Valley Tribune and then at Stonebridge Press. He was a great man and a wonderful co-worker. I loved it when he would bring me a story that he wrote before it went to press. He could make me laugh or bring tears..he was an incredible writer.

I remember when he first met the love of his life. He talked about her all the time! Mike fell deeply in love at first sight. He was the happiest man alive when he told me that they were going to be married. When he told me that he was going to be a father, well let me tell you, I've never seen anyone as proud and excited as Mike! His love for them was his Life!

Mike went to school with my daughters in Whitinsville so we go back to when he was a child. He had so many friends and it was so much fun watching them all grow to adults.

I will miss playing "Words with Friends", the funny comments we shared and hearing stories about his family and trips.

Mike, you were a very special person in my life and I will miss you. Your death at such a young age is so unfair to your family, many friends and me. Rest in Peace, my friend...until we meet again~
