Tracey Greenwood Obituary

Tracey R. Greenwood

HOLDEN/STERLING - Tracey R. Greenwood, 59, formerly of Sterling, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Friday, August 25, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Elyria, Ohio and raised in Chelmsford, Tracey was the son of the late Joseph and Betty Jane (Chester) Greenwood and lived 32 years in Sterling before moving to Holden in 2016.

Tracey graduated from Chelmsford High School, Mount Wachusett Community College and University of Massachusetts - Lowell with his bachelors degree in criminal justice. He worked over 30 years in security management which included over 20 years at Digital Equipment Corp., several years at State Street Bank in Boston and the last 13 years at Amgen Inc. in West Greenwich, Rhode Island. He also worked part-time as a dispatcher for the Sterling and Princeton police departments.

His life was centered on his faith and family. He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester in Sterling and enjoyed coaching for the Sterling youth basketball, baseball, and softball programs. Tracey never met a stranger that he didn't soon consider a friend. He was engaging, outgoing and enjoyed the company of others. Tracey was proud of his children and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He will be affectionately remembered and missed by his beloved wife of 36 years, Patricia A. (LaPan) Greenwood; his son, David J. Greenwood and his wife, Mirissa of Leominster; his daughter, Lisa A. Almonte and her husband, Michael of Rutland; a sister, Cindy Kelley and her husband, James of Ohio; a brother, Timothy Greenwood and his wife Darlene of Pelham, NH, five grandchildren including twins, Emma and Olivia, Natalie, Alexandra and Melanie; nephews and nieces.

Thinking of you with such heartfelt memories! We had a beautiful group of friends which you were a part of. You, even back then was the voice of reason, caring and calm. I hold all those memories close to my heart. I feel honored you were a big part of my life. I feel so lucky I was there when you met Pat. Beautiful union.

I knew Tracey only briefly while working at DEC, but his charming personality left a lasting impression. He once offered me a drive to New Hampshire. I recall his driving etiquette, which was rare for New England. It's been years since we've seen each other, but the memory of his courteous and sweet nature never left me.

Tracey,

My friend, my rock, I am who I am because of you.
Thank you for everything you have given to so many in this world, thank you for everything you have given to me at a time in my life when I needed it most. A few words of encouragement, a smile, a joke, even offering advice?....being a friend when it mattered; ...seemingly little things, but not to me. You gave me the strength and the confidence to tackle my challenges, but with a laugh or two along the way.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Pat and family. Tracey was loved and will be missed by many.

This photo was taken about 7 months ago at a work party.
I posted this tribute on Facebook so our co-workers could see and add their own comments.

I always admired your courage, wisdom, humor and gentle spirit. My life was a little better by knowing you. I promise to never forget you. Thank you for 13 years of friendship and leadership. Man I miss you but I know you are healed now. Love you Tracey. Rest In the precious arms of the Lord.

*My cherished memories include: Good morning chats and coffee walks to the cafeteria. He let me cry in his office if I was having a bad day(lol). Loved his words of wisdom and advice. His smile would make me smile. I had so many good times with him, I'm so happy to have had him as a friend! Cherish those you love, life really is too short!

The first day I saw Tracey after I relocated from Amgen RI to Amgen MA, his smile was so huge that I had to hug him. I have had the pleasure of knowing him for the past 6 years at Amgen and it was truly an honor. He was never too busy where he could not stop and just say hello. You always leave him with a smile. Everyone in MA who knew him said he was so memorable. Sending prayers of comfort and peace from those of us at Amgen MA to the Greenwood family and friends. He was a man who will be truly missed.

I had the honor of being a classmate of Tracy as well as a fellow athlete at Chelmsford High School. He was a very caring and compassionate individual who cherished life to the fullest. May you have solace in knowing that Tracy is now in the arms of the angels above and will forever be your guardian angel.
May you rest in peace buddy. God Bless

I had the privilege of working with Tracey for thirteen years at Amgen. His warmth and thoughtfulness was a pleasure to be around every day. I would frequently stop by his office to sit and chat about life in general and family in particular, in which his joy and love for was obvious. He was often times a shelter in the storm for me and I remain thankful that he was someone I could call a friend.
