Clara P. (Wilbur) Benson, 96
DOUGLAS - Clara P. (Wilbur) Benson, 96, of Grove St. died Tues. July 30, 2013 peacefully at home after an illness. Her husband of 53 years, Leopold A. "Paul" Benson died in May, 1992.
She is survived by a son, James E. Benson and his wife Laurie of Boylston; 2 daughters, Pearl L. Stolarczyk and her husband Chet of Ft. Collins, CO and Joanne M. Bradbury and her husband Harold "Hal" of Douglas with whom she lived; a daughter-in-law, Georgia Benson of Webster; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Walter A. Benson as well as 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Born in Marlborough, MA on Dec. 27, 1916 she was the daughter of Walter and Maria (Worden) Wilbur. She was a graduate of Marlborough High School and worked as a housekeeper before she married. Clara and Paul owned farms in Westborough and Dudley before settling in Douglas in 1962. Clara was an active outdoor lady. She loved camping, riding snowmobiles, and always had a vegetable garden. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and was an active member of the Women's Federation group. She loved sewing and making quilts. Clara enjoyed singing over the years while her husband played the banjo.
Her service will be held Sat. Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. in the Second Congregation Church, 289 Main St., Douglas. Calling hours at Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas will be Fri. Aug. 2 from 5-8 p.m. Burial at Maplewood Cemetery in Marlborough will be at a later date.
