Jeannette Young Obituary

Jeannette L. Young, 87

SOUTHBOROUGH - Jeannette L. (Grise) Young, 87, of Southborough passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016 after a period of declining health.

She was the wife of the late Edward J. Young who died in 1994.

Jeannette was a graduate of Worcester State College where she majored in teaching and minored in geography. She taught math and English for over 30 years and retired from the Marlborough School system. She would dazzle us with her knowledge of obscure facts about the mountain ranges of China, Europe and Africa's rivers, tributaries and deserts. She had an obsessive interest in meteorology, where she could talk about cloud types, storm fronts and weather systems for hours. Jeannette was an active member of St. Matthew Church of Southborough where she was a sacristan for 22 years. She would be seen at the rectory doing a variety of tasks, no matter how menial, and always with a smile.

She is survived by her children, Monica Snow of Hudson; Edward A. Young of Hopkinton; Bernadette Fernandes and her husband Stephen of Rutland, VT; Theresa Churchill and her husband Stephen of Grafton; 5 grandchildren, Angela, Theresa and Charles Snow; Brian Young; and Emily Fernandes; 2 sisters Sister Mare Adriandella and Sister Mary Martin de Porres of the Sisters of Providence in Holyoke.

In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her daughter Loretta Young who passed away in 1968.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 17, from 4 to 7 PM at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 18 at 12, Noon at St. Matthew Church, 26 Highland Street, Southborough. Burial will follow in the Southborough Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent in her memory to St. Matthew Church, 105 Southville Road, Southborough, MA 01772

Jeannette was a special member of St. Matthew Parish. My fondest memory was her reading of the the story of creation in the first chapter of the Bible on Holy Saturday. It was an expected part of the beautiful celebration and she read it in a meaningful and special way for so many years. She will be missed by many.

I taught with Jeannette during my early years of teaching at Bigelow School. She was an excellent math teacher . She was the go to coworker when it was time to balance registers at the end of the school year. At that time the school was not able to leave for the summer until the entire school balanced. We had Jeannette to be thankful for more than once. I felt that I knew all of her children with the love she shared for each one of them during our early morning chats in the teacher's room. She was a very caring teacher and from the love she had for her family carried over to her teaching. So happy to have known you my friend.

May God bless and comfort each of you in the coming days as you say goodbye to your very dear Mom. I have such fond memories of Aunt Jeanette.... her twinkling eyes and the laughter she so readily shared. May she rest in peace and may you all feel her great love for you. I will be with you in spirit.

What a great photo of Aunt Jeannette! A remarkable woman, she will forever reside our hearts. She is, and will remain, an inspiration to those touched by her joie de vivre. There are countless memories to recall between the Young and Careau families, with Aunt Jeannette as a centerpiece. Monica, Eddie, Bernadette and Theresa (and your families): may God's tender mercy sustain you in your grief. With Love.~L.
