Daniel F. Doyle, 89

DENNIS - Daniel F. Doyle, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Dan was born in Worcester, the son of the late Daniel F. and Mary F. (Doyle) Doyle. He attended Worcester Public Schools. After graduating from North High School, Dan attended Holy Cross College, Class of '51 and then entered the Passionist Community for a brief period. He later studied for the priesthood in Brighton and the Grande Seminaire in Montreal, Quebec. On February 2, 1955, he was ordained in the Diocese of Worcester by Bishop Wright.

Dan ministered in various parishes but his true dedication and love was to minister to the sick and dying and their families. He was the Chaplin at St. Vincent's Hospital and also worked at Memorial and Umass Hospitals before and after he became a Chaplin in the United States Army

Dan also served as Chaplin for the Worcester Police Department for many years. In doing so, he supported and honored the work of his late father who was a Worcester Police Officer.

His ministry in the priesthood spanned 33 years. Dan then married Louise Cote on June 5, 1988 and they were fortunate to celebrate 30 years together.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2018 in Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union St., Leominster at 11:00 a.m. A calling hour will be held from 10 – 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial at St. John's Cemetery in Worcester will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Family Support Center in Brewster, MA or McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, MA or a . Brandon Funeral Home, Fitchburg is in charge of arrangements.
