Deanna Batstone Obituary

Deanna Bea (Ficksman) Batstone, 66, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 9, 2010.

Deanna will be especially missed by her three children, Jessica McCusker and her husband Tom of New Milford, CT, Meredith Lewis and her husband, Ben of East Hampton, CT, and Seth Batstone of New Bedford, MA; five grandchildren, Riley, Owen, Erin, and Jamison McCusker and Jace Lewis; her former husband, David Batstone of Norfolk, MA; and her sister, Ruth Dolby of Canton, MA.

She was born in Winthrop, MA, daughter of the late Charles and Alice Ficksman. She earned her teaching degree from Boston University and taught elementary school in various parts of the country before devoting many years to raising her children. She then earned her accounting certificate and spent the remainder of her career performing computer and medical software training, most recently with Hewlett Packard. She lived in Sterling, MA for the last 10 years, serving on several boards in the town.

Deanna enjoyed skiing, music, and participating in her Toastmaster activities. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, rarely missing a game. Having had pets her entire life, she was a dog lover, most recently of her dog Kiki with whom she could often be seen at dog park gatherings or going out for ice cream. Her favorite times were those spent with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she spoiled endlessly.

A visiting hour will be held Friday, February 12th from 12-1 PM at Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street in Auburn, MA followed by a memorial service at the same location. A private burial will be arranged at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay, 139 Main Street, Cambridge, MA 02142-1530.

I am so sorry to learn of Deana's passing. Over the years it has been a privilege to receive HP educational assistance from her by phone. She was always cheerful, bubbly and extremely knowledgeable.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

I was so saddened to learn of Deanna's passing. We were great friends in high school, especially tooling around in my family car and spying on the boys from Swampscott!

I hadn't seen Deanna in years until our 40th high school reunion when I was back living in Boston, and we got together a few times and learned about our adult lives. I was amazed and in awe when she told me that she had painted the outside of her 3-story Victorian house by herself!

Her life was too short, but it was certainly filled with joy and accomplishment. May her memory be a blessing to her family.

To Deanna's children,

I am shocked and saddened to hear of your mother's passing. Deanna and I have worked together for the past six years at trainings throughout Massachusetts. I shall miss her kindness, her quirkiness and her great sense of humor.
She spoke so often of all of you and her love for you and her grandchildren was all-encompassing. She was so proud.
My profound sympathy to all of you. I shall miss her.

My most heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of Deanna's family. I was so happy to see Dee at the 25th anniversary of the Vineyard, and have many fond memories of when you lived in downtown Hopkinton. Heaven is a richer place today, because Dee is there. May you be comforted of the fact that Dee is in the presence her Lord and Savior until the day you meet again. With much Love and sympathy.

To Deanna's family....My sincere sympathy to all of you. I have fond memories of Deanna from elementary school, junior high, and high school. We were in classes together, were occasinal playmates, were in band together, and we were in a girls' social club, too. I remember her sunny disposition, her spirit, and her kindness. I especially remember Deanna's musical talents as a singer: she and another friend used to harmonize beautifully just for fun. They were great!

I am very sorry for your loss. May your treasured memories be a comfort to you.

Sincerely,
Norma Wolfson Kelsey

To Deanna's Family, I am so sorry for you loss. Your mom was a great person. I worked with her and we spoke daily. She was a very strong part of our team and she will be missed dearly. I had the pleasure of having a friend relationship outside of work, and enjoyed exchanging stories about our children and grandchildren. She was so proud of all of you! She loved you so much. I will miss our chats and sharing each others opinion about many subjects. We laughed many times about stories we had in common in life. My heart goes out to all of you. But you must know, that all of you were her life. Her life was fullfilled with love from her family. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of sorrow.

Deanna lived upstairs from us in Winthrop in the late 50's. When my Dad died very young and unexpectedly, she and her family were very supportive and made our sadness tolerable. Please accept my condolences for your loss.

To Deanna's children,
I was struck with sadness to hear of
your mom's death. She was a close
childhood friend. We lived around the
corner from eachother in Winthrop, and played with eachother almost everyday--in the summer catching grasshoppers and small toads in glass jars, then
letting them go. Indoors we colored
and played paper dolls together. We
attended eachother's birthday parties,
playing "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" &
musical chairs. As we got older, we
made scrapbooks together of movie stars' photos cut out from screen maga-
zines. For my "sweet sixteen" she gave me a powder blue, mohair, crew neck sweater which I treasured. My
most acute memory of her was as teen-agers, when she said something which
hurt my feelings. To this day, I remember her response when she realized. She commented with heartfelt
regret how she could see the hurt in my eyes. I remember at that moment being aware of the sensitivity she
possessed, and learning for the first
time how revealing one's eyes are. It
was a difficult moment which ended in
my feeling her kindness-- to this day.

As you can see, I treasure my chidhood
memories of her.

Please accept my sympathy.

Best wishes,
Irma Levine Stratton
