Lisa Warren Johnson

BOULDER, CO - Lisa Warren Johnson of Boulder, Colorado died April 12, 2018. She was born in Worcester on June 7, 1944 to Alden Porter Johnson and Mary Chandler (Bullock) Johnson. She attended Lee Street School and Bancroft School in Worcester, followed by Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT. In 1962, Lisa went to Boulder to study at The University of Colorado and made her home there after graduation. She married Steven Kent Clarke in 1976. They divorced in 1979.

Passionate about children, Lisa was a devoted educator at schools in the Boulder area. Her specialties were early childhood development, math and language arts. In 2014, she worked as a coach at the Paris School in Denver, where she mentored and supported young new teachers. She retired from teaching in 2011.

As a young person, Lisa traveled extensively. She spent a summer living with a farm family in Denmark as part of the Experiment in International Living. Other adventures took her to the Outer Hebrides and the remote Andean highlands where she lived for a time with the Quechua Indians. Her favorite place by far, and one she returned to as an adult was a summer camp known as Half Moon Ranch in Wyoming. Lisa loved being outdoors. She was an avid gardener, hiker, biker and runner. Her favorite pastimes included collecting dolls, travel, and spending time with family in Rockport, MA, Provincetown, MA and Jamestown RI.

In addition to her son Alden Fessenden Clarke and many dear friends in the Boulder area, she leaves family in the east who loved and will miss her, including her sister Judy Lampe of Enfield, NH, her brother Peter C. Johnson and his wife Jan Devereux of Cambridge, MA, nieces Issa Lampe of Chicago, IL and Tamasin Johnson of Cambridge, MA, cousins George S. Barton of Lima, Peru, Rebecca Barton-Zuckerman and wife Penny Barton-Zuckerman of Storrs, CT, their daughters Man-Lei Barton-Zuckerman of Mansfield Center, CT and Maya Barton-Zuckerman of Boston, MA., and cousin Prim Bullock and husband Jerry Scott of Jamestown, RI.

Interment will be at Rural Cemetery, Worcester on Tuesday, July 31st at 1 p.m. with an informal gathering to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bancroft School, 110 Shore Drive, Worcester 01605
