William Gorman Obituary
William Thomas Gorman, 81

NAPLES, FL - William Thomas Gorman passed in peace as the sun set on Saturday June 30, 2018 at the age of 81. He was at home in Naples, Florida, comfortable and surrounded by family. Bill was born July 7, 1936 to Kathryn (Sullivan) and William Patrick Gorman and was raised along with his sister Joan in Barre, Massachusetts.

After graduating Saint Michael's College in 1958, Bill served in the Marine Corp. He started his business career with an oil company, quickly moving on to stocks and worked on Wall Street for some years. He moved to Branford, CT in 1968 remaining a broker. Bill started with Algonquin Industries in 1974 and became President in 1983 when the company was acquired by Alcoa. In 1986 Bill and three other Alcoans purchased Algonquin Industries and Rea Magnet Wire from Alcoa. While Bill's intelligence and business savvy certainly played major roles in guiding the company towards its ultimate growth and success, he was always quick to point out he relied heavily on bringing in good people as well as "Thinking Big and Acting Small". Retiring in 1996, he remained a shareholder and member of the Board of Directors at Rea until his passing. He was a 50-year member and past President of the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club, past President of the Aluminum Association, and a Trustee at Saint Michael's College.

There were several events from his younger years he often mentioned which clearly had substantial impacts on the great man he was to become. The challenge of his father passing when he was 13; being raised by a loving mother; attending St. Michael's College in Winooski, VT; and serving in the US Marine Corps. soon after graduation. Bill ultimately lived a very full and happy life even as he overcame a number of serious health issues in his later years.

He loved his morning coffee outings with various groups, closely following the stock market, playing golf with great friends in CT and FL and was a sports aficionado. Bill will be remembered for his love of family, intelligence, business acumen, friendly demeanor, willingness to help most anyone he saw with a need, and larger than life, magnetic personality.

He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Liz), son William Patrick (Bill) Gorman, daughters Nancy (Dave) Knickerbocker, Lisa Siebern, Jennifer (Chriss) Spires, Saundra (Dave) Bellamy, grandchildren Billy and Haley Gorman, Chriss and Sydney Spires, Tyler Weiss, Mason (Megan) Bellamy, Ryan (Nicole) Bellamy, April (Charlie) Walker, Brielle and Alaina Bellamy, as well as six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 27th 10:00am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Branford, CT, followed by interment at St Agnes Cemetery in Branford.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Hospice.
