WORCESTER - Dorothy S. McInerney, 93, died peacefully on Tuesday July 29, 2014, a beautiful summer day, after declining health. Daughter of the late Howard A. Stevens and MaryEllen (Clarke) Stevens.
Dorothy leaves her daughter Jean McInerney of Worcester, her five grandchildren, Stephen McInerney and Kevin McInerney of Plymouth, Mass, Elise McInerney of Brighton, Mass, Dru McInerney of Washington, DC, Kate Ground of NY, New York. She also leaves three great-grandchildren, Stephen R. McInerney, Riley McInerney, and Jacob McInerney all of Plymouth, Mass. Many nieces, nephews, friends and a special caregiver, her niece, Melanie Lamoureux. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Robert L. McInerney, sons Robert S. McInerney, Brian McInerney and granddaughter, Lia McInerney and brother Howard A. Stevens.
Born in Worcester, Mass she graduated from Classical High School, and attended the University of Mary Washington in Virginia. Dorothy devoted her life to raising and experiencing the joys of her family. She loved the beach and enjoyed vacationing in Maine and the Cape. She especially loved exploring and discovering special spots off the beaten path with her husband and family, leaving her family with the wonders and treasured memories.
Dorothy always involved herself with the activities at hand and the current events of the day, eager to engage in a debate of opposing views, injecting her sense of humor. She was a member of the Outdoor Sports Club for over 25 years.
A memorial service will be held Sunday August 24th, 2 PM at the First Unitarian Church of Worcester, 90 Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Dorothy's life suggested to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or via www.dana-farber.org/gift or McCauley Nazareth Home, 77 Mulberry St, Leicester, Mass 01524.
