Clinton - Philip J. Joyce, 88, died Thursday, August 7, 2014, in the Life Care Center of Leominster, after an illness.
He is survived by two sons: John J. Joyce and his wife, Louann, of Clinton, and Philip J. Joyce, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Auburn; a sister, Mary Donahue, of Paxton; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Doris Devine, of Framingham. He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Mary R. (Pender) Joyce, who died in 1988, and their three daughters, Ann (Fontana) Francis, Marlene (Fontana) Tor, and Ellen Joyce. Two brothers, John J. Joyce, Jr. and Thomas Joyce, also predeceased him.
Philip was born and raised in Clinton, son of John J. and Ella (Mortimer) Joyce, and was a life-long resident. A 1943 graduate of Clinton High School, he was a US Marine Corps Veteran of WWII, during which he participated in action at Iwo Jima. Upon his return home from the war, he attended the College of the Holy Cross, graduating in 1949.
For more than 30 years, Philip worked at the Framingham Post Office as a Postal Clerk, a job that he loved, until his retirement in 1999.
A member of St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish, and the American Legion, he was a devoted family man.
Philip's funeral will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Sunday, August 10, 2014, from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
