Peter R. Olsen 85
Worcester - Peter R. Olsen - 85, of Worcester, formerly of Santa Rosa, CA and North Reading, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center surrounded by his loving family.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Jean (McFadden) Olsen of over 61 years; his loving children, David Olsen and his wife, Stefanie (Kuehnel) of Corona Del Mar, CA, Robert Olsen and his wife Maryanne (Liberatore) of Sudbury and Nancy Cahn and her husband Thomas of West Boylston; his daughter-in-law, Carol (Newman) of Millis; grandchildren, Jenny, Becca, Emily, Daniel, Kimberly, Thomas, Josh, Sarah and Danielle; his great-grandchildren, Annabella, Tyler, and Ryan; his brother, Paul and his wife Audrey. Peter's son, Donald A. Olsen, died in 1989.
Peter was born in Melrose, MA in 1927, of the late Peter Aagot Olsen.
Peter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was an incredibly unselfish, devoted and caring man. His life has been an inspiration for everyone who knew him.
Peter was a loving caregiver to his wife, Barbara, for many years. He was a social man and, in a low-key way, was the life of the party.
He enjoyed keeping current with news and politics. He loved sports and remained active and athletic, playing golf 5 days per week in his California retirement, until recently. He was a member of the Windsor Golf Club, in Windsor, CA for 23 yrs.
Notwithstanding his love of golf, Peter's number one love and priority was his family. He was a wonderful family man who provided his family with much faith, hope and love.
Peter graduated from Melrose High School in 1944, Tufts University in 1949 (Phi Beta Kappa), and earned a master's degree in Physics from the University of Michigan in 1950. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII, where he served from 1945-1946. He worked at General Electric Co. in Schenectady, NY and Lynn; Electronics Corporation of America (ECA) formerly of Cambridge; Riley Co. in Worcester; and Optoelectronics Co. of Petaluma, CA.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 17th at 10:30 AM at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Children's Hospital of Boston, Tuft's University, or the U. Michigan.
