Wendell Lewis Wright, 94

Sturbridge - Wendell Lewis Wright, 94, a longtime resident of Sturbridge, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at the Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in W. Brookfield. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Stewart) Wright, and a daughter Linda Gaines of Middleboro, MA. He also leaves 2 grandchildren Rael Hailey of Brockton, and Rachel Mastri, and her husband, Logan, of Florida, MA, 4 nieces Gayle Mussenden of St. Albans, NY, Grace Ann Critton of Silver Spring, MD, April Oates of Bloomfield, CT, and Beverly Micham of Tappan, NY, and a nephew Aaron Gaskins, Jr. of Bloomfield, CT. He was predeceased by 2 brothers Robert W. Wright, Jr, and Kenneth Wright.

He was born in Springfield, son of the late Robert W. and Grace (Lewis) Wright, Sr. and lived many years in Springfield before moving to Sturbridge. He graduated with a BA from American International College in Springfield, and played college football.

He was a member of the United Congregational Church in Worcester, the Sumner Masonic Lodge #5 Jurisdiction of Massachusetts F & AM. He was a member of the Sturbridge Rotary Club, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a volunteer for the Literacy Program at the Jacob Edwards Library in Southbridge. He retired from Rex Nord Company of Springfield where he worked as a salesman for many years.

Wendell enjoyed all sports. He was a coach for the Chestnut Street Congregations basketball team, and the Ted William Little League Baseball team.

The funeral service will be held at 11AM, Saturday, August 20, 2016, at the United Congregational Church, 6 Institute Road, Worcester, MA. Burial will be private.
