Walter E. Haddad

Worcester - Walter E. Haddad, 87, of Worcester, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at UMass Hospital in Worcester, with his loving family at his bedside.

He was a lifelong member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral and served in many capacities, Sunday School Superintendent 5 years, Parish Council Member 20 years 3 terms as president, Vice President, New England Region of Orthodox Youth and publisher of a monthly newsletter. He was Choir Director for 50 years without being able to read music, he directed feeling the music in his heart. He was an avid jazz fan and often brought his son Michael to large jazz shows. Walter also taught Michael how to be a gentleman, he was pure class. He was a doting and giving grandfather who never missed a game, a recital, a party, a chance to see them.

Walter sang most of his life with the likes of Emile Haddad and Fred Hall. He and his wife had a great love of ballroom dancing anywhere and anytime even in the kitchen at home. Walter had a zest for life living it for his church, family and community. Walter will be sorely missed by everyone that knew and loved him.

Walter was one of those special people you remember for the rest of your life. I have not seen Walter for perhaps thirty years, when I supplied computer systems to Chicago Dressed Beef. An honorable, very capable gentleman I was blessed to know. He also introduced me to the enjoyment of middle eastern food. May you always smile when you remember him.

Christine, Michael, and Pam,

Ginny and I are saddened to learn of Walter's passing on to the next life. We are a bit shocked to hear of his departure as just a few days before on July 26, 2017, we visited Walter at Holy Trinity. He was in fine spirits and happy to see us as we were to see him. We had a brief conversation as he was ready for lunch. As ever, even in a wheel chair, he was most dapperly dressed.
Walter was my greatest critic about my Orthodox Hour on WTAG, and I appreciated his continuing intererst in spreading the word of Orthodoxy.

Our condolences to you and your family,

May his memory be eternal!

Dear Mrs Haddad, Lorna, Daphne, Deidre, Michael and grandchildren and all family..so very sorry for your loss. The world has lost a quintessential gentleman..who represented the truest respect of others with every action he shared..the walk, the smile, the twinkle in his eye, the kind word and the need to make sure that everything and everyone was in a better place before he left. He is irreplaceable and his presence will be so missed. Walter Haddad has left so many memories of what we should be and we we are so thankful that we had him in our lives. May the love he nurtured, carry on through all of you and bring each other the strength through the difficult moments. God Bless. Love Cheryl Shea

When my friends and I were teenage members of the St Spyridon's Choir in the late 50s- 60s, Walter was the Director of St George's Choir. We sang together in the combined choirs for the Multilingual Orthodox Liturgy held at the Worcester Auditorium on The Sunday of Orthodoxy during Lent. Those were special times - following weeks of rehearsals in Arabic, Greek, Russian, Rumanian, producing the glorious singing that was the result of devoted work by Walter Haddad, Elpida Milias, St Spyridon's Choir Director, and others. At the time I thought Walter was a 'grownup'. From his birth date it seems he would have been twenty something. We were very lucky to have been part of something greater than any one church could have been. It can't have been 60 years - but I think it has. "All things shall perish from under the sky. Music alone shall live. Music alone shall live. Music alone shall live, never to die." May his memory be eternal.

Walter always had a kind word and a compliment for everyone. He had a way of making one feel special and appreciated. Walter had a ready smile, positive outlook, and a gentle manner. He was generous with his time and talents. We are sure Walter has found a celestial choir to direct. He loved his church and the people. It held a special place in his heart and he was very devoted to St. Georges.Until we meet again in God's Kingdom, we will miss this lovely man.

Dear Chris, Michael, Lorna, Deirdre and Daphne,
So sorry to hear about our neighbor! You never forget all of the people that surround you growing up. One of my very favorite memories of Walter is when I could hear him singing through out the back yard. I could hear a little whistle and then a song. Keep his happy memories close!
