Annie Ruth Black Hunter Close

Nashville, TN

Annie Ruth Black Hunter Close died in Nashville, Tennessee on November 24, 2016 at the age of 105. Ruth was born in Columbia County, Arkansas on January 17, 1911. Upon graduation from Waldo High School, she enrolled in the Nursing School of Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas from which she graduated in 1931 as a registered nurse. Ruth's nursing career continued until she retired at the age of 65.

Mrs. Close is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Ruth Hunter Sewell (James) of Nashville, son, Raymond Earl Hunter (Kathy) of Silverton, Oregon, four grandchildren, Jim Sewell, Laura Blackmon, Sharon Huard and Dave Hunter, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and sister, Virginia Owens Reynolds of Lewisburg, Tennessee and nieces and nephews. Ruth was pre- deceased by her husband, William C. Close and grandson, David Hunter Sewell.

Ruth was a member of The First Baptist Church of Osceola, Arkansas and attended West End United Methodist Church of Nashville, Tennessee for the past eleven years where she was a member of the Bible and Spirit Sunday School Class and the Sunny Day Club.

A memorial and celebration of life service will be held in the sanctuary of West End United Methodist Church, 2200 West End Avenue at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Visiting with family and friends will begin at 12:30 in McWhirter Hall. A grave-side service will be held at Shiloh Cemetery, Columbia County, Arkansas at 3:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2016.

Memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church of Osceola, the Sunny Day Club of West End United Methodist Church or the charity of choice. The family expresses appreciation for the care partners of Abe's Garden and the staff of Alive Hospice and for the services of Ellis Funeral Home.
