POTTER, Billy RossA memorial/luncheon to celebrate the life of Billy Ross Potter of Brentwood, TN will be held Saturday, 12/15/12 at 11:30 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 660 Thompson Lane. Billy died at age 78 as a result of a post-operative stroke. His parents, Hackett and Sally and his daughter, Heather, precede him in death. His wife, Joyce Paul Potter; son, Lincoln Potter (Cecelia Green); sister, Linda Smith; grandchildren, Georgia and Jackson; and multiple nieces and nephews, survive him. He graduated from David Lipscomb High School and attended Vanderbilt University before serving as a U. S. Marine in Korea. For 55-years, he headed a successful commercial real estate business that constructed over 100 houses, warehouses and apartment buildings. Billy loved his family, his many friends and animals of all kinds. He could find humor in spite of unfavorable circumstances and brought laughter and joy to those who knew him. He was an avid reader and perfected the friendly debate to an art form. In lieu of flowers, send donations to ASPCA.

I'm sorry to have lost touch with my friend Billy. I feel like I knew him well for 10-15 years. He was one hornery guy, but thoughtful to a fault. Probably like anyone that knew him, I argued with him and had him yell at me but we always parted friends. We will all live slightly less full and colorful lives without you Billy! You are now with God and with your daughter.

I just learned of Billy's Passing. He was our Landlord for over 7 years. Mr. Potter was a Wonderful Man. He and Wendall Waller's Kindness to us when our facility flooded will never be forgotten. He was a hardball businessman, and yet, exceptionally fair. He gave us Great Advice, and many, many moments of levity. We traded insults with great humor and shared a love for total, absurd exaggeration.. there were evenings when he'd stop by, just to "shoot the breeze" with us. He was a Great Character. Billy was one of a kind and a very good man. While I never managed to do a deal on one of his buildings I sought his counsel one time on a complicated real estate business matter. His advice was spot on and helped me settle the matter in a pragmatic way. Billy was generous and thoughtful.

GOD enriched my life by allowing me to meet Billy at Metro Codes, as he was getting a building permit years ago. He was the toughest and most honest person I have ever met. I loved his stories about his buddy Pat Boone.

Some of the best memories are of Billy and I growing up across the road from each other and the many times we went camping by the creek at our place. Billy was a very special influence in my teen years. Rest in peace.

"He was a man, take him for all in all,
I shall not look upon his like again."
This is Hamlet speaking of his Father, the King. And speaking of our unique, dear friend, he will be remembered for a lifetime, but certainly can never be replaced.

Mr Lincoln, and Mrs Linda and family our hearts are so sadden for the loss of a wonderful man and friend. Mr Billy was such a blessing to me and Ron. I so enjoyed just sitting and listening to him and hearing all the adventures that he was a part of, and for all the things that he so was wise about. Our prayers are with you and the family. Mr. Billy will be missed by many.

Oh how I loved Mr. Potter. He ownes the warehouse (building) behind our house and he would come by now and then to get something out of it and I would always go out and talk to him. He loved our dog, Smokey. He would bring Smokey cases of canned dog food just because he wanted to. I loved Mr. Potter and he was good at giving me hugs every time he came. God bless you Mr. Potter. I know heaven is a brighter place because I know that is where you are.

Oh how I loved Mr. Potter. He ownes the building behind our house and would come over from time to time to get something out for someone or himself. I would always go out and greet him and he always depended on me to watch over the building. He never said a bad word about anyone. I will miss him so much. God bless you Mr. Potter. I know God is proud to have you with him.
