Dr. Amanda NUNAMAKER



NUNAMAKER, Dr. Amanda WaggonerAge 78, formerly of Winchester. Graveside services and inurnment of cremains, officiated by Rev. Ricky Lee, will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 11 a.m., at Lynchburg Cemetery for Amanda Anne Waggoner Nunamaker, who passed away in College Park, MD on April 10, 2013 after a three year battle with cancer. Dr. Nunamaker was born on June 17, 1934, the daughter of the late Lemuel Augustus Waggoner and Hattie Margaret Sory Waggoner. She spent her formative years in Winchester, TN and Murfreesboro, TN, and earned Bachelors and Masters degrees from Middle Tennessee State University. She taught English and journalism in public schools in Michigan, Florida, and Ohio. She also served as a reporter for the Nashville Tennessean. After receiving a Ph.D. degree from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Dr. Nunamaker taught journalism at the University of Maryland, and later at Howard University from 1983 until her retirement. Dr. Nunamaker served as president of the Washington, DC and Maryland professional chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists.
