Cecil DAVIS



DAVIS, Cecil Leonard Age 97 of Mt. Juliet, TN, died Sunday, September 22, 2013. Mr. Davis was the 8th of 10 children born to the late George Wilson and Mary K. Reynolds Davis. He was born and raised in Gibson County, TN where he lived and worked on the family farm. Mr. Davis was a member of Berclair Baptist Church in Memphis, TN where he served as a deacon. He was later a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN and First Baptist Church in Mt. Juliet, TN. Mr. Davis was employed by Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI prior to entering the military. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. He was a combat engineer and sergeant in the 2nd Armored Division, also known as "Hell on Wheels". He fought in battles in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He landed on Normandy Beach and fought the Battle of the Bulge. After being discharged from the military, Mr. Davis returned to Michigan and his job at Ford Motor Company. He then moved to Memphis, TN in 1946. He was employed as a machinist by International Harvester from 1946 until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Davis moved to Mt. Juliet, TN in December 1983. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Margie Keathley Davis and nine siblings. He is survived by daughter, Linda Davis and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Bond Memorial Chapel, with David Fallon and Don Dillingham officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m., at Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer, TN. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the Gideons International, P.O.
