Ernest Grady Bogue
Ernest Grady Bogue, age 77, departed this life at his home in Knoxville, TN on October 30, 2013 surrounded by family. He now celebrates eternal life with his Heavenly Father. Grady was a devoted Christian husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves an incredible legacy of leadership, having dedicated almost 50 years of his career to Higher Education, serving at five universities and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
Known by many as "Dr. Bogue," Grady inspired and impacted countless students by leading with integrity, wisdom and love during his career. Grady also dedicated time to his home church of 22 years, Laurel Church of Christ, where he passionately taught adult Bible classes and partnered in the international ministry. Grady's love for music inspired him to play the French Horn in three symphony orchestras. His passion for the written word was evident as he authored 11 books and over 60 articles. In his earlier years, Grady served six combined years in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy
Grady is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Linda Young Bogue; and five loving children, Karin Bogue, Michele Bogue, Barrett Bogue, Sara Bogue, and Michael Bogue. "Poppy" was loved dearly by his two precious grandchildren, Aden Bogue and Tristin Bogue. Grady was born and raised in West Tennessee, where he is survived by his stepsister, Hazel Townsend, and his many nieces and nephews.
Grady is preceded in death by his father, Emery Grady Bogue and mother, Ardelle Wiseman Blankenship; sister, Elizabeth Escue; stepbrother, Therman Bogue; and stepsister, Gladys Baskins.
The family will receive friends at Laurel Church of Christ, 3457 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN from 4 - 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 2. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., also at the church.
The family will also receive friends at Hillsboro Church of Christ, 5800 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN on Monday, November 4 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Laurel Church of Christ; University of Memphis; University of Tennessee - Knoxville; or University of Tennessee - Chattanooga.
