Marie Nicholson Rogers
Marie Nicholson Rogers, age 95 of Randolph, NJ, died peacefully on March 20, 2014.
She was born in Moss, MS on May 9, 1918 to Maude and Milton Nicholson. She graduated from Scarritt College and Vanderbilt University
, where she earned an MSW degree. She married Frederick DuRant Rogers on June 2, 1941. Fred had been her clinical supervisor during her program at Scarritt.
Marie spent her career as a social worker always standing firmly in her efforts to affect positive change in the lives of all she encountered. She worked for Bethlehem Center as a commissioned Methodist deacon and later as a school social worker for the Nashville Metro Board of Education.
Marie is survived by her children, Frieda and Julien Rogers, and Ginny Maico and husband Steve; and four grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Zachary and Lauren.
A Memorial service will be held June 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the West End United Methodist Church, Scales Chapel, in Nashville, where she and Fred spent much of their lives. Interment will follow in the Morrow Memorial Cemetery in Dixon, MS on June 30, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be given to the Angel Fund of the Community Foundation in Nashville, TN. The Angel Fund enables some incredible public servants, or "angels," working in the nonprofit sector to help people in need. Marie's passion was to always help those in need. www.cfmt.org
