HOWELL, JR., Robert Lee Age 86 of Nashville, TN. Passed away on October 5, 2012. A direct descendant of early settlers in Middle Tennessee, Mr. Howell was the son of the late Robert Lee Howell, Sr. and the late Rachel Draper Howell, who have preceded him in death. Mr. Howell is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Louise S. Howell; daughter, Brenda (Ronald) Nevin; grandchildren, Ashley (Brad) Wilson, Andrew Nevin, Ryan (Adrienne) Nevin & Caroline Nevin; great-grandchildren, Brandt and Drew Wilson; and brother, John F. Howell. Mr. Howell was a graduate of Peabody College. During World War II
, he flew many dangerous missions over Germany in a B17 as a Ball Turret Gunner with the US Army
Air Corps, 15th Air Force. He was awarded the air medal with clusters for his service. One of the highlights of Mr. Howell's life was when he attended the dedication ceremony for the World War II Memorial in Washington DC, as a special guest of the Tennessee Delegation. Mr. Howell was a retired teacher in the Metro Public School System, and an owner of a home planning and design firm. He will be remembered for his special interest and talent in wood carving, furniture making, and sculpture, as well as his great conversational skills with friends and veterans groups. Mr. Howell was an avid history buff and world traveler. Pallbearers are Ron Nevin, Andrew Nevin, Ryan Nevin, David Howell and Chuck Wells. Honorary Pallbearers are John F. Howell, Brad Wilson, Bernie Smith, James R. Stynes, Robert Corum and Bill Leeder. The family requests that memorials be made to Montgomery Bell Academy and St. Cecilia Academy. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation from five o'clock until seven o'clock on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 9, 2012. A funeral ceremony to honor the life of Mr. Howell will be conducted at one o'clock on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in the Dignity Hall of Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, with Reverend Sandra Randleman officiating.
