Thomas Alfred SCALES

SCALES, Thomas Alfred Age 73, known to all as Alfred, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2013, surrounded by his beloved family. Preceded in death by his parents, J.T. and Sara Scales. Alfred is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann Freeman Scales; three children, Deanna, Tommy and Mitzi; eight grandchildren (five grandsons and three granddaughters); four great granddaughters (with one on the way); siblings, Bunny Perry, Tony Scales, Linda Bills and Tobey Scales. Alfred was born on March 28, 1940 and was a life-long resident of Nolensville. Many know him as the self-proclaimed "Mayor of Split-Log Tennessee". He valued hard work, and throughout his life provided for his family in many ways. As President and CEO of Scales and Scales Trucking, he carried grain to farmers throughout the Mid-South while simultaneously farming, hay cutting, bush-hogging, garden tilling and in general, helping out others in any way he could. He and his tractor were frequently seen traveling the back roads of Williamson County and was most comfortable in his overalls and Brogans. He retired from trucking earlier this year, but continued his other activities until his death. Alfred will be remembered for his generous heart, "Jerry Clower" sense of humor, and his love of people. At the center of his life were God, family and his faith-community, Nolensville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and nursery school helper for many years. He developed a "Hershey's Kiss Ministry" and always had a pocketful of goodies to dispense to children or whomever needed a pick-me-up. He was faithful about visiting those who were hospitalized for shut-in, and in buttercup season always delivered a huge bouquet from his garden. Funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Woodbine Funeral Home, HICKORY CHAPEL, 5852 Nolensville Road by Brother Tommy Ferguson and Brother Lowell Thompson of Nolensville Baptist Church. Interment Nolensville Cemetery. Pallbearers include his grandsons, Jon Holt, Caleb Scales, Jaccob Scales and Ben Holt; grandson-in-law, Chucky Haynes; and nephew, Josh Scales. Visitation Monday, 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday, 1:00-2:30 p.m. at WOODBINE FUNERAL HOME, HICKORY CHAPEL DIRECTORS, (615) 331-1952. Still Family Owned
