Wanda Roberts Baxter
Wanda Roberts Baxter died at the age of 95 on March 28, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Wanda was born to the late Verne and Nora Roberts in Waxahachie, Texas on May 19,1918. She grew up in a strong Christian home in Taft, Texas.
Wanda was the widow of the late Batsell Barrett Baxter whom she met at Abilene Christian University. They married on December 22, 1938, in Taft, Texas. She lived a life of service in support of his ministry as an evangelist and Christian educator. Following his death in 1982, Wanda continued to support the Herald of Truth, David Lipscomb University and numerous other Christian ministries.
An accomplished pianist, Wanda attended Abilene Christian University and Pepperdine University on music scholarships. She earned a Bachelors degree in home economics from David Lipscomb College. She was also a published author of children's Sunday school materials, and a lifelong student and supporter of music, literature and the arts.
A devoted wife and mother, Wanda is survived by her three sons, Barrett Scott Baxter (Elaine), Richard Alan Baxter, and John Douglas Baxter (Randi), five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and five siblings.
All who knew her loved her, and she will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wanda's memory can be made to David Lipscomb University's Batsell Barrett Baxter Chair of Preaching fund, Abilene Christian University's Batsell Barrett Baxter Scholarship fund, or the Herald of Truth ministry.
Visitation will occur at Woodlawn 2-5 pm Sunday. On Monday morning at Hillsboro Church of Christ, visitation will occur at 9:30 am followed by the funeral service at 10:30 am, and burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
