Dr. Ishee was a blessing in my life. My love goes to him and his family. He was a gentle person with so much wisdom. Myra, I had the honor of meeting and sitting with you at one of his services at Cumberland Heights. I could fully understand how you were the light in his life. May the Lord be with You always.

It was a privilege to work with John in the final 18 months of his distinguished career at Cumberland Heights. I will remember John as a gifted storyteller, a top notch teacher, a compassionate counselor and as a comedian. He brought much love and laughter into the lives of so many people in need of healing. Myra, I want you to know that not a week passed in which he failed to mention how blessed he was to be married to you. He appreciated how compatible you were as a couple. He loved traveling with you. He was VERY proud of the service you offered to First Presbyterian Church and the local community. Mark, your dad was very proud that you started the chess club and he was very pleased that you found love in Jennifer and meaning in your new vocation as a teacher. May the love of Christ enfold you and fondest memories of John sustain you in the days ahead.

As a former patient at CH I met Dr. Ishee there and he made each patient feel special. He was so positive and let each of us patients know that he believed that recovery was possible made me feel maybe for the first time in my life like I was worthy of a drug and alcohol free life and that he believed in me and no matter what my past was or what made me turn to drugs and alcohol was not my TRUTH, that I could change the tapes that played in my mind that told me that I was unless, no good for nothing, ugly or stupid. He made me understand that those tapes that I was playing could change because I was a person of value that I was a kind and understanding wonderful child of God and that God didn't make junk! He made me for the first time feel like I mattered that I was not to blame for the things that happened in my childhood and that when I let go of the guilt then and only then could I move forward. He was so right!! Once I let go of the guilt which was not mine guilt to carry my steps felt lighter I no longer viewed myself as unworthy after all this man who is respected by so many just told me that I mattered!! No words could ever describe how that changed my very existence and now several years later when times were hard or I was tempted I just thought of Dr. Ishee telling me that he believed in me and I was worth so much more than I could see and one day I would see in myself what he saw and that life of loneliness and darkness would never be true for me again. Hw will be missed by so many, he I am sure never knew just how many lives he had changed not just those at CH but all those people that once us patients returned out into the real world we had so many opportunities to help other addicts and alcoholics, and I know that I have shared the words that Dr. Ishee said to me with others passing on the love and understanding that he gave to me. God received a angel and although he walks with God he still walks with each of us! Love and prayers to the family.

I met Dr. Ishee when my daughter was in the adolescent treatment program at Cumberland Heights. He was so gracious, supportive, and a wonderful speaker. We went back to church at the chapel at CH after my daughter was discharged just to hear Dr. Ishee. I pray for his family and friends at this sad and difficult time.

Mr. Ishee, his wife and son were our neighbors for over 30 years. I have such fond memories of living there and being next to them...so faithful and gracious...always a smile on his face and love in his heart. He was a neighbor who followed his heart and duty and convinced my Dad into therapy. So many times as Christians we are leery to get involved. I am so thankful that he did. Prayers of peace and comfort to Myra and Mark.
