Viola Barton Obituary

Viola Smith Goodwin Barton

Franklin, TN

Viola S. Barton passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 9, 2016, and is now reunited with her husband, Ed; son, Ralph, son-in-law, Paul Cleckner and sister, Dorothy.

Viola was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on Aril 28, 1919. She was Ed's companion throughout their ministry years in several Nazarene churches. Viola loved decorating and enjoyed helping others decorate their homes throughout her 30 years in the custom drapery department at Sears.

Viola, better known as "Grandma" , loved to remind her family that "getting old isn't for sissies" and she would always say, "You just wait until you get this age. You'll see!"

Those who will miss her spunky personality are her daughter, Beverly Cleckner; grandchildren, Susan Lane ( Mike), Dianne Dougharty (Mark), Paul Cleckner (Jenny), and Janet Mattingly; her brother, Ralph S. Goodwin (Betty) OF Dayton, Ohio along with her 9 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of Viola's 97 years will be held on June 20, 2016 at eleven o' clock in the morning at Wise Chapel of First Church of the Nazarene.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Viola's name to the Nurture Team, c/o Brentwood Baptist Church, 7777 Concord Road, Brentwood, TN 37027.

My parents, Lewie and Lucinda Wright, spoke often of the Bartons and Cleckners over the years. I believe Rev. Barton preformed their wedding and the Cleckners were in their wedding. May you all find peace as you gather together to celebrate Mrs. Barton's life.
