McGEHEE, Donald W. Age 89, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 in Mt Juliet, TN. Mr. McGehee was born January 10, 1924 in Nashville, TN to the late Ernest and Lillian McGehee. Mr. McGehee is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ruth McGehee. He had a life full of accomplishments. He served in the U.S Marines during World War II. Besides serving in combat he was a Judo instructor, worked with Charles Lindburg and the FBI. In 1942 he had a small roll in movies with Bing and Bob Crosby. In the early 1950's Mr. McGehee was a popular TV wrestler who went by the name of "Robinhood McGehee". He hosted a health and fitness segment on the "Noon Show" with Teddy Bart in the early 1960s. He was a 65 year member of the YMCA. He traveled with Paul Anderson in a YMCA program along with the world's strongest man. He was honored in Washington DC in 1963 for his work as the Chief Juvenile Officer. He also worked with and was good friends with Frank Clement. He was a body guard to President Johnson when he was in Tennessee. He was awarded honorary Texan by John Connally, Governor of Texas in 1964 after the Kennedy assassination. He worked with Phil and Don Everly (Everly Brothers) as an image maker. Mr. McGehee worked in the Criminal Justice system as a Judge, Warden and Director of Pardons and Paroles. He retired from the Public Service Commission where he was the Director for the State of TN. He also started a golf league in Shelby Park with friends. In 1999 Mr. McGehee was awarded "Nashvillian of the Year" for his "I Am Somebody" program for grades 1-4. The Tennessee Titans In 2006 honored him as runner-up for his volunteer work in the state of TN. George H. Bush in 1998 awarded Mr. McGehee in the "Points of Light". These are just a few of the times He was honored for his volunteer work. Survivors include his sons, Terry McGehee of Los Angles, CA, Danny McGehee of Mt. Juliet, TN, one brother Evert (Connie) McGehee of Murfreesboro, TN, and one grandchild Trista McGehee of Washington DC. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home, Nashville where funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Hunn, officiating. Interment will follow in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of contributions to St Jude Children Research hospital, in loving memory of Donald W. McGehee.
