WORDEN, Florine "Flo" KruegerBeloved wife and mother, was called to our Heavenly Father on January 26, 2013 at the age of 92. Flo was born July 31, 1920 in Smithville, Texas to Theodore Henry Krueger and Helen Hunziker Krueger. She graduated from Smithville High School and attended Texas Lutheran University. Flo worked for a legal firm in Austin, Texas where she met her love and best friend Joe Lewis Worden. They were married December 9, 1944, and they had three wonderful sons, Richard, Jimmy and Bill. Her husband became the athletic trainer at Vanderbilt, and Flo became a dedicated fan to Vanderbilt football, basketball and baseball. In the early days, Flo regularly attended basketball games at David Lipscomb College prior to the construction of Memorial Gym. Flo worked as an administrative assistant in the Mathematics Department at Vanderbilt University for 21 years where she made many lifelong friends. She was a long-time member of Calvary United Methodist Church where she served as chairperson of the Calvary Book Circle for 12 years and delivered meals to those in need for more than 20 years. She dearly loved being in service to the church and found great reward in her service. Flo will be greatly missed in our hearts, but many are in heaven to welcome her. She was preceded in death by husband, Joe Lewis Worden; sons, Richard Lewis Worden (Paula), James Hunter Worden and William Wentworth Worden III (Nancy); grandparents, Herman and Elizabeth Hunziker, John and Amelia "Molly" Krueger; parents, Theodore Henry Krueger and Helen Hunziker Krueger; brother, Theodore Raymond Krueger, Sr. and wife Wanda; niece, Kathy Krueger Soyars; cousins, Bill Hand, Roy Hand, Hilma Albers Pflueger and Esther Albers Walker. Flo is survived by her nephew, Theodore R. Krueger, Jr. and wife Terri; great nephews, Ryan Krueger, Justin Krueger, Eric Krueger and Brett Soyars; great nieces, Tracy Soyars Mazloum and Ashley Soyars Salinas; several great great nephews and nieces; cousin, Lera Witt Javor. Flo was blessed by many good friends in her life, but the family extends heartfelt thanks to two of her very special friends, Newt Williams and Dr. Joey Barnett. Newt had played football at Vanderbilt with Flo's son, Richard, and Joey had been a neighbor of the Wordens for many years. These two faithful friends helped Flo countless ways throughout the years and were always at her side when she needed them, giving her joy, comfort, and peace of mind. Flo gave to others and lived her life in such a way that made her worthy of the presence of these angels in her life.
