George DUNCAN Obituary

DUNCAN, George Ralph Was born January 3, 1931 to Cooper Duncan and Lamond Mitchell in Hickman County. He graduated from Hickman County High School and went to Austin Peay College before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He served four years, half of which was spent in the South Pacific on Guam. Upon his return to the United States, he continued his education at MTSU, from which he received his B.A. and Masters Degree in Physical Education. He first coached and taught in Cornersville, TN then came to metro to coach at Cumberland High School, and later he coached at Glencliff High from which he retired. He was an avid golfer and a lifelong fan of University of Tennessee basketball and football. He continued to play golf until the ravages of dementia prevented him. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie Hadley Duncan; daughter, Jill (Steve) Elliott; grandson, Logan Hadley Elliott; granddaughter, Ariel Hope Elliott; grandson, Jackson Steven Elliott; sister, Betty Duncan of Smyrna, TN; half sister, Nell Rich of Knoxville, TN; beloved uncle, Robert Earl Mitchell of Jackson, TN. Funeral service will be conducted at eleven a.m. the morning of Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from two to five p.m., with a Celebration of Life Memorial by his grandson, Logan Elliott to begin at four p.m.
